I am currently building an OM style but plan to make the box a litle deeper than standard. Does the sound hole diameter need to be increased when adding volume to the interior of the box? I am adding about 1/4 in. to the depth. cecil |

the standard hole will be fine. If you do want to go larger I wouldn't go over 4" john hall |

To be honest, I just use a 100mm hole for everything. I'd need a lot of convincing that anyone can hear the difference in a 5mm change. Colin |

I use 96mm on most models, On the smaller bodied guitars I make I go smaller, but only so the hole looks in proportion. I know at Martin they certainly used to if not still do change the mearurement on each model size, I think it got 1/16" larger with each step up the size range. Personally I think it was more to do with the look and keeping everything nicely balanced to scale rather than a need to cope with larger volumes of air, I have experimented a bit with sizes and have to say I'm with Colin I can't see these small shifts having a major influenece |

I use 3.5 inch on parlours and single 0, 3 3/4 on 00, possibly on 000, and then 4 inch on OM and larger. larrivee on his oversize holes goes 4 1/4 I think. |
